Hausas return to Sabo community after inter-tribal clash with Yorubas

On Wednesday, March 8, there was pandemonium in Sabo, a Hausa-dominated community in Ile-Ife, Osun state, where many lives and properties were destroyed.

According to reports, trouble began when a Hausa man allegedly slapped a Yoruba woman whose shop he was said to have always mess up.



Teeloaded.ml journalist who traveled to Ile-Ife to ascertain the true state of things, gathered that the Hausas suffered more damages than their Yoruba counterparts.

Majority of the shops and houses that were pulled down belong to Yorubas, but were occupied by the Hausas where they trade and live.



When we visited on Friday, March 17, the Hausas were seen in a lively mood despite the huge loss they suffered during the impasse which we learnt did not last for up to one hour.

Security officials were still on ground in the community as at the time of the visit, since the people were still living in fear of a repetition of the violent acts.

Pig farming has become extremely popular business nowadays and becomes even more popular day after day. If you have decided to begin a profit-making business than pig farming is for you. The popularity of pork is far beyond Nigeria. Piggery farming is an investment that brings a quick return.

Pig farming in Nigeria plays a great role in the country economy, it reduces unemployment, lack of nutrition, poverty etc. Breeding pig cannot only bring you money but also fulfill meat demands of your family.

Pros of piggery farming in Nigeria

Piggery in Nigeria has many pros, they are:

• Pigs have a very short reproductive period if to compare with goats and cattle. A sow gives birth to approximately 12piglets two times per year, the period of gestation is about 115 days. Pig grows fast.

Several popular breeds in Nigeria are: local breeds of white, brown, and black color, and foreign breeds: Hampshire, Hereford pig, American Yorkshire, Berkshire pig, Landrace, Tamworth pig, Duroc, Mulefoot pig, and others.

Hybrid pigs grow quicker and are much healthier in comparison with other breeds.

For the very beginning, it is advisable to buy a small amount of piglets, to understand if you can cope with them, and then gradually increase the amount, so you will have minimal risk.

To make a right choice you should pay attention to the signs of a good piglet:

• Glossy coat;
• Good temperament (be aware of aggressive pig);
• Having good appetite;
• Bright eyes;
• Without claudication;
• Buy only from trusted sources and assure the vaccination.

Housing

For profitable farms in Nigeria, housing is essential. Building of a good house for your animals is a guarantee of healthy pigs and will prevent predators’ attacks. Places, where pigs sleep and eat are called pens. Housing helps to control temperature level during cold weather and excess of heat. Pigs are vibrant to temperature, they even can die. You can raise pigs both indoor and outdoor. If you keep pigs outdoor just remember that they will need a good place to survive hot and cold weather. If you keep pigs indoor, ensure good ventilation, sanitation and illumination inside. You should also organize a place for pig’s bedding and feeding. The bed should be dry. Some people consider pigs as dirty animals, in fact pigs love clean environment. You should create a drainage system of free flow of pigs’ waste.

If you want your piggies to be happy, just build a small water pool, where they will be able to play and swim, as well as get rid of dirt and cool themselves in hot weather. Change the water in the pool periodically.

To receive pig-farming profits you should build your business taking into account many things.

Feeding

Provide your pigs with fresh, nutrient rich and high-quality food, to be healthy and grow fast. Feeding good your pigs, you also prevent different pig illnesses. Pigs are not choosy about food, they can eat kitchen trash, forage, stalk, agricultural residues. It is advisable to add to your pigs’ daily ration rice, corn, soybeans, vegetables, cooked meat. The pigs’ gestation period is about 115 days. Usually, piglets are born two times a year. Each sow can have approximately 10 piglets a time. A sow feeds piglets by breast milk for the first 9 weeks, after this period a sow is ready again for semination.

You can market pork both on the local and international markets, the demand for this type of meat is rather high. China is the leading international consumer of pork. Muslim girl, 17, sparks outrage after twerking in public while wearing her hijab (photos)

A Muslim girl has caused serious outrage on social media after she was caught twerking in public while wearing her hijab, as people cheered her on.

The Sun UK reported that the 17-year-old was out shopping with pals when she and a friend joined a street performer and began dancing.

Footage of her dancing was later uploaded online, and it attracted a barrage of hateful comments. One wrote: “That’s so disrespectful is you are wearing hijab you are representing Islam respect dignity so how to act like a fool that is a big disrespect.”

She later gave an emotional interview to Muslim YouTube star Ali Dawah. The teenager, who has not been named, told him during a phone interview: “To all the girls that wear hijab and wear abayah, I’m sorry for disrespecting it. I’ve learnt from my mistake. It’s gone viral and I’m just hurt, I just want everybody to leave it alone and keep everything away, I don’t want it to be how it was and I am not going to do anything like that again. I am sorry for disrespecting it and thank you to all of you that helped, it’s up to Allah to judge, at the end of the day I will be judged for it, not you guys.”

UPDATE: Hausas and Yorubas clash at ile-Ife, Osun state

There is an ongoing fight between the Hausas and Yorubas at Sabo market of Ile-Ife, Osun state.

The clash reportedly started when a bus used his side mirror to hit a Hausa woman at sabo last night.

The Magaji of Hausa community in Ile- Ife and secretary to the central mosque in the town, Alhaji Nasir Magaji has explained the cause of the mayhem.

Magaji explained that a Hausa man allegedly slapped a wife of a Yoruba man, Kuburat, who was a pure water vendor.

He said: “It was Kuburat that provoked the Hausa man who slapped him and that after slapping her, many Hausa people were not in his support as they scolded him for doing that, but the Yoruba who were not pleased with the situation, retaliated by beating the Hausa man and others."

Gunshots are being heard while some shops have been set ablaze and residents have deserted both Sabo and Lagere, Ile-Ife, in bid to escape the clash.

Police and army personnel have been discharged to the area.

The Osun state government has declared a two day curfew in Ile-Ife which will start from 6pm and end by 7am till Friday, March 10.

According to a statement from the Director of Bureau of Communication, Media and Strategy to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Mr Semiu Okanlawon: “The curfew has been compelled by the breach of the peace in the area which led to avoidable destruction of lives and properties."
